What LAH Treatment Involves
Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH) is a technique used in IVF to enhance embryo implantation. The outer shell of the embryo, called the zona pellucida, is gently thinned or opened using a precise laser. This assists the embryo in breaking through the shell and attaching to the uterine lining, which is a crucial step in achieving pregnancy.
Why LAH Is Recommended Sometimes
LAH is often suggested for women over 35, patients with a history of failed IVF cycles, or when embryos have a thick zona pellucida. It is also used in frozen embryo transfer cycles where the hardening of the outer shell may reduce implantation chances. The procedure can improve the likelihood of the embryo successfully embedding into the uterine lining.
How the LAH Process Works
During the LAH procedure, a laser beam is precisely targeted to create a small opening or thin the shell of the embryo. This is done before embryo transfer and does not harm the embryo when performed by experienced professionals. The technique is safe, quick, and helps support implantation in selected IVF cases.
